The continuing adventures of the Wightriders MCC
It’s been a long time since I’ve done a North Island Rally so it was some what elevating to roll off the Lymington ferry and head up into the New Forest.
Ok it wasn’t the most epic of rides but I enjoyed it and arriving at Gang Warily in the shadow of the Fawley Tower I had my pick of spots to pitch up on. It was early evening before I was joined by fellow Wight Riders Gill and MNick, the later only briefly before he headed off to rescue Volvic who had broken down en route. Once setup we decamped to the Bar for the evening to catch up and drink beer.
Saturday saw us head off site in the morning in search of fuel and a breakfast that didn’t come in a styrene box! After finding both we decided to head down to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.
After a bimble down through the New Forest, a first for MNick, we arrived at the museum and spent an interesting afternoon looking over the massive collection of cars and bikes, old and new, housed in the museum before taking the obligatory ride on the monorail around the grounds.
Back at the site in the evening the field now full of bikes and people we grabbed some dinner from the on site catering van and spent a pleasant evening listening to the bands and setting the world to rights before heading to bed slightly gutted that the caterers had closed for the night well before the bar closed.
Sunday dawned and after coffee and packing up we headed back the the same cafe for breakfast where we were jumped on by a lycra clad Buzzy who just happened to be there on his works bicycle tour of the New Forest.
After saying my farewell’s to Gill , MNick and Buzzy I headed back to the site to checkout the Ride in Custom Show.
This had attracted a fair turnout of riders from across the south coast on some very nice bikes filling up the Community Centre Carpark where it was held. This was accompanied by a range of trade stands and bands playing on a artic trailer press ganged into a stage. However being a little baked in the heat and a bit skint I headed off after an hour or so back to catch my ferry home.
This was a nice little trad rally that is growing fast. The tinnie bar served it’s purpose and the food was up to usual burger stall standards and the bands were all excellent. I’m looking forward to going again next year.
Some of us spent a pleasant afternoon perusing the bikes on show and in the car park of this years I.O.W. British & Classic Motorcycle Show at the Riverside Centre in Newport.
Buzzy was rather taken with a B.S.A. Bantam Racer and HR brought a Harley silencer for the thing.
With the top of the Clocks party out of the way it’s time to take a look forward to the local events that are on this summer.
The preparations are all in place ready,
The party starts at 8pm in the Stable bar at the Castle Inn in Newport.
Entry is Free.
We’ll have music from Witches Promise and the Bar will be serving it’s usual fine selection of Ales, Larger, Cider, Spirits and soft drinks so all we need is for you to come along join in the fun and have a great evening.
A selection of rally invites that may be of interest.
If you want to go to any of these then why not see if any other members want to go with you on a club night or via the Facebook page.
As Winter reaches it’s zenith and we begin to see the first signs of Spring we all look forward to those longer, warmer evenings of Summer.
After the success of last years inaugural Top Of The Clocks Party where we witnessed the movement of the hour hand of the clock as we celebrated into the first hours of the British Summer Time, we figured we’d do it all again this year.
So we’ve booked the Stable Bar at the Castle Inn, Newport for the night. Witches Promise will be performing for your aural delight and your invited to join us to raise a glass to the arrival of Summer.
Finally after only 2 years in the making we’re proud to announce that the Wightriders MCC have a website again.
While most people seem to live there lives on social media these days that’s not always the case and so we’ve built a website that will let us as a club keep everyone informed of who we are and where we are and the things we get up to.
If you follow our group page on Facebook then you’ll see a link to here when ever we publish something and if your not on the book of Face then you can check out what happening/ over there on the Facebook page here.
So what will you find here? Club news and information on upcoming events and any other stuff we feel like sharing, something of a club newsletter but on the interwebs.
